GYROTONIC® Equipment
Saturday, March 22nd, 2008There are 5 pieces of equipment that are available for GYROTONIC®. The primary one is called the pulley tower (nicknamed Cobra). This is mass produced and readily available. It is the first piece of equipment that all trainers get certified.
The other 4 pieces are all hand made in Hungary and is known as ‘specialized equipment’. As they are hand made, there can be a considerable delay in acquiring them.
The other four pieces are the: Ladder (Archway), GYROTONER®, Leg Extension Unit and Jumping Stretching Board.
All equipment in GYROTONIC® is designed to adjust to any bodily dimension; lending support throughout a 3 dimensional movement. Combining spirals, twists and circular motions with breath to leave you energized, exercised and increased proprioception.
As each pieces of equipment is unique, each is a key to exercise and unlocking your body.

What are GYROTONIC®/GYROKINESIS exercises and and how are they different?
Saturday, March 22nd, 2008GYROTONIC®/GYROKINESIS® exercise methodology is a system of exercises based upon expansion and elongation of a muscle rather then a contractions. In laymen’s terms; if you pick up dumbbell and perform a typical bicep curl your muscle (biceps brachii) will contract or shorten to perform this task. Just pick up any item around your house and watch the muscle contract and shorten.
Now let’s look at a different way.
Imagine you dropped something behind a long, heavy, immobile desk. It not only fell behind, but is caught on the backside. Now imagine that you can not reach it from the side or top, your only hope is to reach under and somehow get your forearm and hand up high enough to reach it. You reach so far that you feel the muscles lengthen and stretch, yet you still reach more (not painful though). As you reach around you may notice that your arm is in the same position as the bicep curl you did in the first paragraph, but as you are stretching your body the muscles have not shortened, rather they lengthen. Another way of imagining this is to remember what it feels like when you stretch in bed in the morning. Your whole body expands with strength (remember accidentally knocking that alarm clock over). This is the strength of expansion. This is GYROTONIC® exercise.
